A Fargo family is having quite the chaotic Thanksgiving after a thief in the night ran away with their bird. But when most of us would be bitter, this family has something to be thankful for.

An elderly Fargo man got the shock of the holiday when he went to get his frozen turkey from his garage. That turkey was nowhere to be found; stolen, by a grinch.

You can say laughter is the best medicine.

Cliff Allery – Victim: “Surprised the heck out of me. There goes the turkey.”

Just ask Clifford Allery.

Cliff Allery: “I came here this morning to look for the turkey and it was gone.”

The Fargo man went to find his frozen 14 pound turkey in his garage, missing. Everything else is there.

Cliff Allery: “Besides the turkey.”

Bea Raygo – Cliff’s Sister: “So then he calls me and says, ‘Bea the turkey's gone.’ I said, ‘No it can't be Clifford.’”

The 66 year-old has been down on his luck.

Cliff Allery: “I lost my kidneys a year and a half ago on May 16, 2010. Just all of a sudden. I didn't know I was having problems with them until they totally went out.”

Allery nearly died twice. Since, it's been three hours of dialysis three days a week. Turns out he has vasculitis, a disease that attacks his kidneys, heart, and lungs. Allery's lungs are only working 50%.

Cliff Allery: “One pill for the first month will be $8000 or more. That's kind of expensive.”

The senior lives on social security. Medicare and medicaid help, but you see that turkey-now stolen-was donated to Allery to make his holiday a bit brighter..

The turkey caper can't keep the upbeat brother down too long. While we were there, the call Allery has been waiting weeks for came in. The date of his transplant is January 3rd.

Cliff Allery: “My younger sister is going to donate one of her kidneys to me.”

Bea Raygo: “So whoever needed a turkey needed it more than we did so thank them for taking it and bringing us good luck actually.”

So maybe this is the lesson here; No matter how bad of day you are having, a little laughter can go a long way.

Cliff Allery: “Somebody must have needed a turkey, so they came and took mine.”

We checked with Fargo police. No other reports of stolen turkeys have surfaced. The turkey thief still on the loose faces a misdemeanor burglary charge. That means jail time and a hefty fine. Clifford, he plans to have beef or fried chicken now.
