Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - With wicked winter weather waiting in the wings, a power company is preparing for problems before they happen.
Xcel Energy has hired trained arborists to trim trees near power poles and live lines. This crew is in North Fargo.
A total of three trucks and six workers are cutting branches and limbs. It will take four and a half years to finish the effort in all of Fargo, but all this work pays off big.
It will hopefully stop power outages during blizzards, ice storms, or windy weather.
MARK NISBET - Xcel Energy: “What you can have is trees slapping the wires or tipping over in storms and causing outages. It's one of the top three causes of outages that we combat.”
The tree trimming costs the company 800 thousand dollars in communities across North Dakota.
