We have breaking news this afternoon in connection with the rash of fires that struck a Barnesville family last month. Clay County Authorities this afternoon filed arson charges against 33 year-old Tara Andvik. A warrant is out for her arrest, and she is not in custody at this hour.
The Andviks lost their barn and their house in the group of fires that started. But now it appears all along authorities had Tara Andvik in their sights.
When we covered the news of the suspicious fires at the home of Tara Andvik just weeks ago, there was obvious empathy and concern for her and the family. But as the number of fires increased, so did suspicion by authorities. Fires that broke out while investigators were on still on scene, matches and footprints, conflicting statements all painted a picture and pattern that resulted in a court document today charging Tara Andvik with arson.
Bill Bergquist – Clay County Sheriff: “Just from the investigation when it started, we looked at everything. you know as well as anyone how overwhelming the Facebook stuff and the computer stuff and we were looking, investigating.”
Andvik at one point speculated to authorities that perhaps animal rights activists were behind the fires because of her high profile as a professional hunter. She also thought perhaps a man she had an affair with was behind the fires because the relationship had broken off.
Lt. Steve Landsem – Clay County Sheriff’s Department: “There were several pieces in the investigation, I cannot get into the details but it was the totality of everything that led us to the charges.”
Social networking actually worked against Andvik. She freely posted her emotions and concerns on Facebook. Authorities carefully combed through all of those and will use some of that in court.
Efforts to reach Andvik tonight were not successful. It is unclear when authorities will be able to arrest her. In a recent Facebook post, Andvik said she was "incredibly scared, and that she felt like her world was falling apart."
