Salvation Army packing Thanksgiving boxes for families in need

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The Salvation Army is providing 500 Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need. This is the first year the Salvation Army has done an event like this.

The Salvation Army is providing 500 Thanksgiving food boxes to families in need. This is the first year the Salvation Army has done an event like this.

With these food boxes families will have all the supplies they need to make a traditional Thanksgiving meal with things like milk, bread, and even a turkey. Volunteers work like a well oiled machine assembling the boxes from start to finish. Once the boxes were complete, boxes were lined up and ready for delivery.

One volunteer is using this event as a service project for school, but he says this wont be just a one time thing.

Jason Smith - Volunteer: “Actually this is something that I will probably even though, I will probably volunteer even after college.”

On one of the highest cooking days more families will be able to celebrate the holiday like any other family thanks to several business and countless volunteers.

Jason Smith: “If they weren't to get this food and offerings who knows what they would have to eat for Thanksgiving.”

Deliveries were made throughout the day as boxes were completed. Salvation Army officials say they will try to make this a yearly event.
