As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, at least one North Dakota turkey will escape the dinner table. Governor Jack Dalrymple granted his first turkey pardon at the Capitol. The 17 week-old turkey was sleepy as it waited to hear its fate while sitting next to two frozen counterparts. The annual event is an opportunity to showcase North Dakota's turkey producers, as well as get into the holiday spirit.

Governor Jack Dalrymple – (R) North Dakota: “Do hereby pardon Dakota from having to give his life to Thanksgiving Day. I don't know. He doesn't look like he appreciates it.”

Dakota the turkey did perk up after receiving its pardon.
