FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The state Board of Higher Education has approved North Dakota State University's plan for dealing with the 2009 collapse of Minard Hall. It includes pursuing nearly $5 million in funding from the Legislature.

Portions of Minard Hall, the largest academic building at NDSU, collapsed in the midst of an expansion project in December 2009 when a wall failed. As a result, the estimated cost of the expansion project has risen from $18 million to nearly $22.5 million. The Higher Education board last week gave NDSU permission to spend nearly $23 million.

NDSU is suing the State Fire and Tornado Fund after its insurance claim was denied.

The Forum reports (http://bit.ly/rUtRNK ) that the university will take its funding request to the Legislature's Budget Section next month.
