The brazen armed robbery at Royal Liquors brings up an issue facing merchants all over the Fargo-Moorhead area: Up-to-date security measures.

West Fargo investigator Derek Cruff can take store surveillance video and kick it up a notch. He is trained in video enhancement, going frame by frame, embossing and isolating details.

Derek Cruff – West Fargo Detective: “Another tool, what is nice we are breaking into still photos our digital age I can now take these and mass email quickly.”

But today's robber is at a disadvantage, digital cameras with evidence on servers and the cameras are lower and at strategic places, pictures are clearer, accessible from any site and retrievable quicker.

Lt. Mike Detloff – Moorhead Police Department: “The technology where the owner can log into the internet and see what is happening at his store while he is home.”

It is hoped the advances made in digital video and recording will speed up investigations like the overnight robbery helping police and merchants catch bad guys quicker, keeping stores and streets safer. Police say merchants can also help with robbery investigations by having cameras in parking lots or outside stores.
