BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Transportation Department officials cite the state's booming oil patch and flood recovery efforts in Minot as reasons for a rise in vehicle registrations this year.

Motor Vehicle Director Linda Sitz says that by the end of the year, registrations will approach one million vehicles, about 55,000 more than last year. Officials are about five weeks behind in dealing with applications and renewals.

Law enforcement officials around the state say they won't stop pulling people over for expired license plate registration tabs, but they'll take the DOT delays into consideration.
