Cass County Social Services is cutting back staff. It's laying off six employees. Chip Ammerman, the Director of Social Services, says its necessary to cut staff instead of programs. Federal funding set aside for foster care was reduced around 16%. Also, the cost of living is on the rise, taking funds away from some programs. This means less money is going toward the Crisis Case Management Program in Cass County.
Chip Ammerman – Cass County Social Services: "What the Crisis Case Management does is early intervention, pretty intense intervention for families in need to prevent children from getting placed into foster care.”
Ammerman says cuts are necessary to avoid raising taxes.
