A former judge and police officer accused of molesting a young girl is to spend 20 years in prison for assaulting the girl over a several-year span.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former judge and police officer accused of molesting a young girl is to spend 20 years in prison for assaulting the girl over a several-year span.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/vAND0j) that 56-year-old Randall Hoffman was admonished by South Central District Judge Tom Schneider for continuing the years of abuse until "the child screamed and you were discovered."

Schneider sentenced Hoffman to 50 years in prison, with 30 years suspended, on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a minor. The judge also gave concurrent sentences of 20 years and five years in prison, respectively, for gross sexual imposition and felony corruption or solicitation of a minor.

Hoffman was a district court judge and, later, police chief in Elgin. He was arrested in September 2010.
