Fargo's bike locker program has been less than a success. The lockers were put in 4 years ago for as a place for bike commuters or downtown residents to safely store their bike out of the weather. The lockers cost $10 a month or $100 for a whole year. Of the 16 lockers available downtown, only one has been rented out this year and in any one year the greatest number of rentals was 5. The city thinks there are a couple of reasons the lockers have not caught on.
Bob Stein – Fargo Planner: “We haven't really maintained a high level of marketing during the time, other than that, I think it's just that people primarily want to keep what they have close to them.”
Fargo is considering moving the lockers to other areas downtown where they may be more attractive to people living in apartments.
