(WDAY TV) -- There are big black bears and then there's the one shot near Hudson Wisconsin. In fact, it may be the largest bear ever killed in state history.
Take a look at this video - taken this summer of the mammoth black bear from Lon (Fay-ah's) trail camera.
Lon (Hunter) – “When you see him on the trail cam there is nothing to put it into perspective so when he finally stepped out and I saw him I was stunned at how huge he was.”
After months of watching and waiting trying and tracking, Lon shot the big bear Sunday in these woods behind his house.
Lon – “the average bear shot in Wisconsin is about 150 pounds the state record is 722 this one was 648 pounds and his feet were still on the ground....it is a very very very very big bear.”
In fact the bear was so big Lon couldn't get him properly weighed.....he knows the bear was 7 feet long from nose to tail.
The bear's head is huge; it will be measured eventually to see if it is the biggest head on record.
Lon's property is wooded, but the bear was shot a quarter mile from these homes and a half mile form a school.
Marilyn Martin lives right down the street. She saw the bear from time to time in her yard.
Marilyn—“I think bears are scary and I didn't want my little dog to be a snack!”
Lon is an avid outdoorsman who loves and respects the wild and its creators. The Wisconsin DNR has taken some teeth and bone samplings in the hopes that they can figure out how old the bear is...and perhaps how it got so darn big.
Lon—“it is the culmination of the dance. God created us to be the master of the creators ...We are going to eat him, and he will be a proud and respected trophy in our home . After all he is too big to be this close to kids and to the neighborhood.”
