Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- More than 12-hundred volunteers participate in United Way of Cass-Clay's 20th Annual Day of Caring. Volunteers from grade school to seniors spread out throughout Cass and Clay counties to make a difference for people in need in our community...
On this annual day of caring, the volunteers visit the homes of more than 450 senior citizens doing household chores like cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and raking leaves.
This is Lenora Kopp's first year of having volunteers at her home.
Kopp has had many surgeries, making it hard for her to clean her house like she used to.
She heard about the program years ago, but she hasn't needed the help until now.
KOPP: Well I think it really means a lot because to me it would be very helpful being i've been laid up for quite some time and I certainly appreciate this.
She says she could never do what these volunteers are doing today.
LONGMIRE (Volunteer): I know me for one I believe in paying it forward, because there is going to be a point in life to where I am going to be in the same situation as the seniors and I am going to be looking for someone to help me out.
Kopp got help today organizing cupboards, sorting food and cleaning her home. These are small tasks that are making a big difference for this thankful senior.
The volunteers at Kopp's house were sent from VA Health Care System. They have been sending volunteers out since the beginning of this program 20 years ago.
