Barnesville family believed targeted by serial arsonist

Barnesville, MN (WDAY TV) - Authorities believe a Barnesville Family is the target of a serial arsonist. This morning their porch and their barn went up in flames.

Authorities believe a Barnesville Family is the target of a serial arsonist. This morning their porch and their barn went up in flames. It's the fourth time there's been a fire on their property in the last six days. The family has been the target of online threats from animal rights groups but it's unclear if the incidents are related.

Law enforcement officials were already on sight investigating a porch fire when they looked out the window and discovered the barn was full engulfed. Now the family is frightened, puzzled and angry.

Tara Andvik - Homeowner: “Enough is enough, whatever point they're trying to prove, they've proven it. They've taken away my feeling of safety and they should be ashamed of themselves.”

It all started last Friday night, when Andvik discovered a small grass fire on her property - 12 hours later another one. After this morning's events, many are at a loss for words.

Bill Bergquist – Clay County Sheriff: “Even talking to the fire marshall she said it's never happened before in her career, and our investigators and deputies were here. Yeah it's pretty strange.”

And whoever the arsonist is, he or she could be looking at heavy fines and serious jail-time.

Bill Bergquist: “Obviously the money value dictates what type of crime, but it would definitely be a felony arrest.”

A very avid hunting family, the Andvik's don't know who would have a vendetta against them. But fearing for their safety, they are having their two young children stay elsewhere for a while.

Tara Andvik: “It's cowardly because they're not showing their face. They're taking our heaven, our vacation spot and making it into quite the opposite.”

The Andvik's say before this, in the 120-years they've been on the property, there has never once been a fire.
