MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The first checks from the Minot Area Flood Recovery Fund could go out next month to people who are rebuilding after record Souris River flooding this past summer.

Minot Area Community Foundation President Ken Kitzman tells the Minot Daily News (http://bit.ly/qe77pP ) that the recovery fund board hasn't yet determined eligibility criteria or the amount of awards. But the amount could be in the range of $1,500, based on more than 4,000 damaged properties and the $6 million available in the fund.

The disbursement committee is making decisions based on surveys of residents in the flood zone. About 3,000 surveys, or 80 percent, have been returned. The foundation will send officials into areas where survey data is lacking to visually assess the situation.
