Worker shortage in Northwest Minnesota

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Some companies in northwestern Minnesota have an unlikely problem in a tough economy. They can't find enough employees.

Randy Twistol or Arctic Cat says the company's Thief River Falls plant isn't operating at full capacity because of a shortage of workers. At Digi-Key Corp., human resources vice president Rick Trontvet says the company has recruited around the state and even out of the state to find workers, but the lack of housing in Thief River Falls is a problem.

Gov. Mark Dayton attended a regional economic summit on the issue Monday at Northland Community and Technical College. The Grand Forks Herald (http://bit.ly/pzGENu ) reports the governor wants the state to help the area by creating more affordable housing options.
