DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — The state Department of Transportation says the number of vehicles registered in North Dakota has increased about 20,000 over last year.

The Dickinson Press reports (http://bit.ly/mTJ7rz ) that about 925,000 vehicles were registered in North Dakota through September. That's up from about 905,000 in 2010.

Agency spokeswoman Peggy Anderson says the increase in vehicle registrations mirrors North Dakota's growing population, especially in the booming oil patch in the western part of the state.

Anderson says the busiest time of the year for vehicle registrations is October, November and December.
