An almost 24 hour man hunt for an escaped High risk sex offender is now over. Twenty-nine year-old Joseph Matthew Megna escaped from a prisoner transport van after it stopped at a Tower City rest area late Tuesday afternoon. As he was being taken in to custody we heard from Megna himself explaining why he ran from authorities.

Joseph Megna – Capture Convict: "The transport lady, I’m vegetarian and she was giving me bread and cheese for breakfast lunch and dinner. She was basically starving me and all the other inmates will tell you that. For breakfast I had a piece of bread with nothing on it. At McDonalds I had a piece of bread with cheese on it."

Megna already a level 3 sex offender was being transported to Washington to face new charges of criminal sexual assault and child molestation. Megna was arrested in Florida and being transported to California from New Hampshire with 6 other high risk prisoners. After an intense 24 hour search, local farmers were asked to harvest the field Megna was hiding in, which Megna says is what drove him out.

Joseph Megna: "I didn’t think there was that many people looking for me. You know, if I knew it was going to end like this I would have never escaped."
