Authorities still searching for man in cornfield near Argusville

ARGUSVILLE, N.D. – Police are still searching for an armed suspect thought to be hiding in a cornfield just north of Argusville.

Argusville, ND (WDAYT TV) – Police are still searching for an armed suspect thought to be hiding in a cornfield just north of Argusville. Police are pulling back from searching these fields. They’re starting to check out the shelter belts an ditches surrounding the corn- but they’re still keeping close watch. The US border patrol helicopter is still combing the corn stocks, only now at a much higher distance. Earlier corn leaves were flying as two helicopters and one crop dusting pane joined the search.

Police say the suspect got in a fight with a female in the car driving for Grand Forks. She tells Captain Rick Majerus with the Cass County Sheriffs office he shot a handgun in the car. She got out and fled and was found by a passerby who alerted police. The suspect was followed by authorities in his vehicle before pulling over and running into this corn field.

Captain Rick Majerus – Cass County Sheriff’s Department: “Could he have had time? Yeah, we did not have law enforcement on the west side. But we feel confident that like an animal he just went in there and bedded down.”

The victim is Kayley Tinkler who was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to Cass County Jail. So far no word on whom the suspect is.
