We’ve heard of these phone scams that leave senior citizens out of money. A Henning, Minnesota woman is the latest victim. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office and Fergus Falls police say the K-Mart store tried to prevent the senior from sending money to a man who told the woman her family member would be jailed if she did not comply. The woman lost $10,000 in the scam, despite attempts by family and K-mart to convince her otherwise.
Jon Karger – Otter Tail County Deputy: “Make sure if you wire money anyplace you verify that is true, if you cannot verify it is probably a scam.”
The Sheriff's Department urges families to sit down with loved ones and tell them about the dangers of scams like this.
