NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say people who have reported an oil spill on a North Dakota lake are likely mistaking the substance for algae.

Three Affiliated Tribes emergency services director Cliff Whitman says his office has received several calls about the material in the water on Lake Sakakawea near New Town.

The North Dakota Health Department is testing the water as a precaution.

Whitman tells the Minot Daily News (http://bit.ly/phjsGJ) that he's thankful that residents reported the situation, even though it will likely turn out to be harmless.
