The historic slugger was actually one of the first players to chew sunflower seeds in the major leagues. Now, a Wahpeton based seed company is doing all it can to get Maris into the Hall Of Fame.

Giants is behind this massive petition drive. It wants to turn 100,000 signatures into the Veteran’s Committee. Volunteers man stations at all metro area Sunmarts, then ask customer to support our homerun hero. Few say no. Petition signers get a specially made bag of roughrider sunflower seeds, flavor 61. It tastes like licorice, one of Maris's favorite snacks.

Kristen Mumm – Giants Sales & Marketing Department: “It's still a shame that he's not in the baseball hall of fame so when you look at 100,000 signatures that's really not a lot. We have 600,000 people living in North Dakota. We can do this. We can make a difference and we can actually get him in to the hall of fame.”

The booth will be at Sunmarts through Saturday. You can also sign an online petition at http://www.roughriderseeds.com.
