Wilkin County has hit a 12 year low for orphaned children. Only 9 kids are now in some sort of care in the county that's the lowest number since 1999. 6 of those are foster care. Despite that number the county has already received 121 reports of suspected child abuse, already a higher number than all of 2010. Many of those calls end up being nothing.
Becky Tripp – Social Services Supervisor: “Contrary to popular belief we do not want your kids. We want people to keep their kids. Placement is not the best thing. Being home is the best thing.”
Social services says they've also seen a spike this year in mental health cases involving kids.
