Maris featured prominently in baseball shrine

As we've heard in recent weeks, the argument for Roger Maris getting into the Hall of Fame is an interesting one. No matter what you believe, the fact is, Maris already has a prominent spot in baseball's ultimate shrine.

Welcome to Cooperstown NY and the baseball Hall of Fame. The voters we spoke with last week said he doesn't have the credentials to be inside. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a place already here.

Brad Horns - Sr. Director of Communications Baseball Hall of Fame: “Roger Maris is a person many people who enter the museum ask about where he is and what is role was in history. They ask why is not in the Hall, he has to be in the Hall. By and large he's someone our staff spends a lot of time exploring the numbers and sharing with visitors to them an entire context of his career.”

The biggest accomplishment of Maris's career has a prominent spot in the Hall, with the bat and ball Maris used to hit the record breaking HR featured in the new "one for the books" portion of the museum.

Brad Horns: “The Hall of Fame concept is one that's played out to represent one out of every 100 MLB players. So it's very exclusive. That idea that one moment may be celebrated, that one year may be, is always a possibility. That's what the museum is here to do, never let those memories die. Exhibits like this and the stories behind them have a place to live on for generations.”

The Maris story is well known in Fargo but for the young baseball fan wondering who was this man who dared to beat out Babe Ruth, they'll now know.

Brad Horns: “Roger Maris will never be forgotten in baseball history and through these artifacts fans can almost picture themselves in that moment in time.”
