Enderlin, ND (WDAY TV) -- People in the small community of Enderlin now have a way of honoring those who served and serve in the armed forces. Hundreds of visitors came to a special dedication for the new Veterans monument.
This monument is not only worth a lot of money, it is worth a lot to the community of Enderlin. Marvin Knutson's name is one of the many on the monument.
MARVIN: Beyond words. I really can't express my words what it means
Like Knutson, Frank Egan has his name engraved on the black shiny granite.
FRANK: My name is on there; my fathers name is on there, all of my uncles. This monument is a living monument for both living veterans who are currently serving or who have honorably served and also for veterans who have passed on.
This monument includes the names of more than 1500 people from Enderlin. There are even more names from the nearby towns of Alice, Sheldon, Nome, and Fingal. The monument has been in the works for nearly 2 years, and cost around 40, 000 dollars to complete.
FRANK: We raised all money locally to pay for this monument, and the pavers and the lights. There was a good deal of help and support from the local businesses.
MARVIN: It is very heart warming to see the support that has been given to this project and here it stands.
With all the names comes lasting memories. And space to fill there will sure be plenty more.
MARVIN: I know a lot of the people that are involved and a lot of them are gone now of course but I knew them and it is a long lasting piece of stone
