Grand Forks, ND (WDAZ TV) --The 1st ever Horse Show is raising money to help children battling deadly diseases. 17-year-old Lilly Mankie has been saddling up and riding horses since she was two.
Lilly: They called me loping Lil' because I always went fast when I was little.
Mankie's ride with her horse Doc is extra special this time....trotting, galloping and racing for a good cause.
Lilly: It just makes it more special, you want to do better to see what you get.
She's one of nearly 30 riders taking part in "Saddle Up And Show you Care" a horse show raising money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Heather (Event Coordinator): I really enjoy putting on horse shows, especially a show like this to help young children and help their parents you know.
Riders show off their skills racing around barrels or riding with an egg in a spoon to see how long they can keep it in place.
Jaimie (Volunteer): St. Jude's is an awesome charity and if we had to do a fundraiser for someone, lots of kids need help.
Horse lovers like Mankie are happy to be making a contribution by doing what they do best...saddling up and riding.
Lilly: It's just peaceful you know, you get to be on something that's really hard to control, like has a mind of it's own so it's exciting at times.
It raised nearly 24 hundred dollars.
