Devils Lake Prepares for Winter Lake Access

Crews will once again work to clear paths on Devils Lake making lake access easier for winter anglers. However, with their funds depleting, the lake access group may not plow as much or as many trails as previous years.

Crews will once again work to clear paths on Devils Lake making lake access easier for winter anglers.

However, with their funds depleting, the lake access group may not plow as much or as many trails as previous years.

A few different areas will be focused on this year, including Lake Irvine and Pelican Lake.

The ice needs to be at least 20 inches thick before trucks can be out on the lake.

Officials say they usually don't start creating trails until about mid-January.

"We are going to concentrate on six mile bay, east bay area, and possibly east Devils Lake, depending on how the fish are biting down there this year," explained Baisch.

Baisch says it's important for anglers to remember not to drill holes in the lake access paths.

With the amount of snow on the lake, drilling a hole could cause the path to flood and become inaccessible.
