Suspended Valley City chief wins court battle

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — A judge has ruled that a reprimand issued to Valley City Police Chief Dean Ross should be removed from his record.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — A judge has ruled that a reprimand issued to Valley City Police Chief Dean Ross should be removed from his record.

City Administrator Jon Cameron reprimanded Ross in February for not following an order from a supervisor. Judge Daniel Narum agreed with Ross that under city ordinance all orders to the police chief must come from the mayor.

The City Commission earlier had sided with Cameron on a 3-2 vote to uphold the reprimand.

Ross was put on paid leave this summer while authorities investigate whether he mismanaged and misspent thousands of dollars of public money. Ross maintains he has done nothing wrong.
