The small town of Page, North Dakota is hoping Hollywood movies find their way back to Main Street. Volunteers in the Cass County town run the theatre during the summer--except this summer. The old film projector broke, no one could fix it, and the town could not afford a new one. As we told you last week, many theaters are being forced to switch over to digital movies, and that is where the Marcus Theatres in Fargo helped save the day in Page.

You know you're in North Dakota when local farmers quit field work and morning chores to head into town and help save the Page Theatre.

Duane Dows – Page Theatre Volunteer: “A source of pride in the community and we like to keep it going because of that.”

Piece after piece the four farmers unloaded and carried a film projector donated by Fargo's Marcus Theatres now that the movie house went digital.

Marvin Thorson – Page Theatre Volunteer: “We have a hard time affording free so when they give us free, we take it.”

In Page, North Dakota this summer, it was pretty quiet on Main Street. The volunteer run theatre had to shutdown. The old projector, busted. The theatre was thriving decades ago. Laurel and Hardy...Humphrey Bogart….and back then, those Laurel and Hardy movies were 19 cents.

Marvin Thorson: “Generations back, people have memories of coming out of here, I think I brought my wife on a few dates over the years here.”

Once the harvest is over and the snow flies, the recycled projector from Fargo will be assembled here in Page. Film reels and credits will roll, and Page will have its talkies back in town again. And how about this for community effort. Volunteers in Page not only run the film projector on movie night. They also pop the popcorn and sell the tickets and clean the place after a show.
