GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks man who pleaded guilty to robbing a bank in the northeast North Dakota town of Gilby has been sentenced to life in prison.

Authorities say Clifton Patterson and another man used a handgun and a shotgun to threaten a teller during the May 2009 heist at the Bremer Bank branch.

Patterson pleaded guilty in June to bank robbery and was convicted at trial in August on other charges including aiding and abetting the use and carrying of a firearm during a crime of violence. U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Patterson was sentenced to the life term on that count, and to a total of nearly 22 additional years on other counts. He also was ordered to pay nearly $90,000 in restitution.
