ANOKA, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged the boyfriend of an Anoka woman with murder in the death of the woman's 3-year-old son.
Twenty-four-year-old Anthony Urban had been charged with first-degree assault. The Anoka County sheriff's office says those charges were amended to second-degree murder Tuesday after the boy died Saturday.
The child's mother, 40-year-old Elizabeth Moorman, faces child neglect charges.
The boy was flown to HCMC Aug. 30 after suffering a severe head injury.
According to the complaint, Urban is suspected of punching the boy in the side of the head the previous day while the boy was brushing his teeth. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/rfPaBJ) Urban told detectives the boy bit him after he tried to remove the toothbrush from the boy's mouth.
Both Urban and Moorman remain in jail.
