Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- While many people have the day off from work this Labor Day, others are doing hard labor. This is part of a volunteer sandbag removal effort at Wildwood Drive in Bismarck. Kathleen Jones lives in the once-flooded neighborhood. Many elderly people can't remove the heavy, wet sandbags and hay bales since the Missouri River has gone down. A large group of boy scouts, church groups, friends and neighbors answered the call for help once again. Jones says, “"I could kiss them and hug them for the rest of their lives!" We put the call out and these gentlemen from Killdeer and Halliday even brought bobcats along because there's a shortage of rental equipment right now... We are so grateful to all these people for everything they've done." The volunteers are hoping to get sandbags around five homes in the neighborhood cleared out. Burleigh County has been picking up the sandbag piles.
