Cook County, MN --A Tofte woman was hospitalized after being injured in a head-on collision on Minnesota Highway 61 in Cook County.
The Minnesota State Patrol said Anne Becker, 42, was seriously injured when her vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Kelly Swearingen, 44, of Grand Marais at 5:33 p.m. on Thursday at mile post 88. Both women were driving 2007 Chevrolet Silverados.
Becker was taken to St. Luke’s hospital in Duluth. No report on her condition was available on Saturday. Police said her injuries were not life-threatening.
Swearingen was treated and released at the scene.
The State Patrol said Becker was traveling westbound on Highway 61 when she crossed into the eastbound lane. Swearingen, who was eastbound, swerved into the westbound lane to avoid a crash. Then Becker returned to the westbound lane, and the vehicles collided head-on.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The patrol said road conditions were dry at the time.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
