Free festival features 3 days of music in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner, The New Primitives and singer Freedy Johnston are among acts at this year's Concrete and Grass Lowertown Music Festival in St. Paul.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Soul Asylum frontman Dave Pirner, The New Primitives and singer Freedy Johnston are among acts at this year's Concrete and Grass Lowertown Music Festival in St. Paul.

The free, three-day festival kicks off Friday in St. Paul's Mears Park.

Pirner will present a solo acoustic show on opening night.

Other performers over the weekend include the Minnesota Opera, singer Alison Scott and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Concrete and Grass celebrates a wide range of music. The festival serves as the launch of the fall performance season of the Ordway, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera and the Schubert Club.
