Fargo Police are taking their use of social media to a whole new level. With more people becoming Facebook-friendly, They're looking into ways to reach out to the community.
Lt. Joel Vettel – Fargo Police: "It's always there. It's always a tool we can use."
They are posting everything from mug-shots and new addresses of sex offenders to public safety videos. Leuitenant Joel Vettel says its even helpful for tips. But there are some things they won't use their page for, like emergency notifications.
Vettel: "That's why we utilize things like Code Red for truly emergency situations. That's why we do E-alerts."
He says it’s another way to make sure all community members, even those who don't get news traditionally, are getting the information they deserve.
Vettel says since posting isn't time consuming, crime prevention officers monitor the site throughout the day.
