UND's Institute for Energy Studies is getting almost $3.7 million for research. It is one of sixteen locations chosen by the U-S Department of Energy.
Researchers are looking at ways to improve the efficiency and reduce the cost of carbon capture systems.
These systems are used at coal-fired power plants. Researchers already put together a fast, efficient model. They will be testing it at UND's steam plant.
Steve Benson – Institute for Energy Studies – “Good opportunity for education.. You know key thing that we want to do is educate the next generation of engineers, the energy experts. Then we want to develop technologies as well."
The project will last around three years.
