Grand Forks, Alerus manager parting ways

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The city of Grand Forks and the company that manages its events center are parting ways at the end of the year.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The city of Grand Forks and the company that manages its events center are parting ways at the end of the year.

The Alerus Center commission and Iowa-based VenuWorks have come to an agreement to end the management contract. Commission Chairman Dwight Thompson says the city likely will run the center itself next year. VenuWorks staff is expected to stay on as city employees.

VenuWorks President Steve Peters says the company is willing to stay on in a lesser role, such as running concessions.

The Alerus has suffered losses in recent years, which VenuWorks has blamed on a tough concert industry. Ending the management contract will save Grand Forks about $175,000 annually.
