It's about endurance and a will to finish, but not everyone can. A few people from Fargo will participate in the race of their lives this weekend.
The ABC original series Expedition Impossible may have just wrapped up, but what many people don't know, is Fargo has an Adventure Racing community of its own. 24 hours of a non-stop physical pounding. For some it's a nightmare, for others...its what they live for.
Adventure racing combines biking, running and paddling. Teams are given a map and must choose how they will navigate the grueling course. This weekend, Grant Mehring will join more than a dozen teams in Pembina Gorge for North Dakota's largest and longest adventure race of the year.
Grant Mehring – Fargo Adventure Racer: “This is an unbelievable sport for the weekend warrior like person. You are running, biking or rowing the entire time unless you are really tired. So you have to keep moving forward and it involves a serious amount of cardiovascular endurance.”
Another Fargo team will be turning rivals into teammates as Lt. Joel Vettel of the Fargo Police department partners with Ben Swanson of the Fargo Fire Department. The race begins Saturday afternoon and will conclude midday Sunday.
