A woman who witnessed the shooting of Mahnomen County Deputy Chris Dewey testified in court today. Amanda Helms lived across Washington Avenue from Thomas Fairbanks. She is the one who called police after Fairbanks and his friend Daniel Vernier pounded on her door in the early morning hours of February 18th, 2009. She says she watched out her living room door as Dewey ducked from a punch by Vernier. Then she saw the man she later learned was Fairbanks shoot Dewey. Fairbanks faces life in prison if convicted.
