With national unemployment rates hovering around nine percent, Fergus Falls is well above-average, sitting around six percent. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton stopped there, talking to people about how to make the economy even better.

Owner of the Café 116, Greg Stumbo, has served a lot of people.

Greg Stumbo – Café 116 Owner: "Our lunch crowd is kinda buzzing and hopping."

And today, he is serving Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton.

Stumbo: “Obviously we don't have politicians or governors in every day."

Dayton shakes hands in Fergus Falls café before hitting the town to talk about the economy. As far as job growth, Greg says his city sits above the rest, for good reasons.

Stumbo: "1,000 lakes, so the geography is great we have a built-in tourism economy."

But more can always be done.

Stumbo: "Attention needs to be paid more to our infrastructure whether its our roads...."

That's where Dayton comes in. He's in town for a discussion here, at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, the first stop in a statewide tour to speak with concerned community members."

Governor Mark Dayton – (D) Minnesota: "These are starting points, not end points. This is the beginning of... so we are really looking for action and suggestions."

Back at Café 116, Greg says they need to level the playing field. Border States are pulling people away.

Stumbo: "The different incentives and benefits state's can offer for businesses make people set up shop in their state"

While Greg's has seen his café grow from a small shop to twenty baristas, cooks, and servers. He wants continued success for himself and others, and says any investment in the community helps. Dayton has around ten similar visits.. Including one to Becker County this fall.
