Valley City police say they don't have a clear motive in a shooting at two local businesses last night, but say there was an altercation between a Dakota Silver clerk and a man before the shooting. Police wouldn't elaborate any more.

A gunman fired 3 shots in to Brothers 3 gas station and another shot in to Dakota Silver liquor store from his pickup. He crashed on County Road 19 near Baldhill Dam about 15 minutes after the shooting, and was found dead. Police say the gunman’s body was sent to the state medical examiner for an autopsy.

Mark McDonald – Valley City Police Detective: “I don’t want to get too involved. But my understanding that there was some form of altercation at the liquor store and that may have preceded the shooting incident.”
