Clay County seeking more home buyouts

31 Clay county properties are on the list to potentially be bought out. The state granted the county $5 million of the $6.5 million it promised for flood buyouts. Clay County now has to figure out how it will match the grant with $1 million. County officials met today to get the ball rolling on offering buyouts before a potential Spring flood.

Bruce Albright – Houston Engineering: “We’re working to get 31 out of harms way with the funding we currently have. Then we'll look at what happens next spring, what gets added on to the list and we'll work with the legislature. And we'll see if we can get more funds to do more buyouts.”

The County commission will meet again in two weeks to further discuss how the county will get its local share.
