FARGO, N.D. (AP) — William Hill has hung up his robes after nearly three decades as the U.S. bankruptcy judge for North Dakota.

Friday was Hill's last day on the bench that he was appointed to in 1983. He tells The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/qnnlDy ) that it wasn't as difficult as he thought it would be to say goodbye, and he is ready to embrace retirement.

Hill says he hopes he brought stability during his lengthy tenure as judge. He says he'll miss the people the most.
