ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — A teenager who allegedly brought a loaded handgun onto the grounds of a Rochester high school is in custody.
The 17-year-old male was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he was found with a .44-caliber handgun in the parking lot of Mayo High School.
School district spokeswoman Jennifer Pozanc (POH'zahns) says the student had been inside the school, but it's not clear if he ever brought the pistol inside.
Police tell the Rochester Post-Bulletin (http://bit.ly/r3Cu8P ) a parent spotted the gun in a vehicle in the parking lot and notified a police officer.
The officer found the pistol and the teen in the car. There was a scuffle and the teen ran away with the gun. Police say he was eventually caught with an ammunition clip in his pocket. The pistol was recovered.
