A Fargo woman is in jail tonight after Moorhead police say she may be behind an arson fire at the apartment of her ex-boyfriend. But it is the evidence authorities seized from Kim Reger that is giving spark to the investigation.
When Dennis Christianson came home to his North Moorhead apartment, he not only found the door open, but his bedroom mattress on fire. He later told Moorhead Police that he suspected his girlfriend, and it was a 9 volt battery like this that got her behind bars tonight.
Moorhead police say the 47 year old Reger allegedly ransacked this north side apartment, then started a fire on her ex-boyfriend's mattress. But when Fargo police questioned her on an outstanding warrant they found something detectives believe may help their investigation.
Lt. Tory Jacobson – Moorhead Police: “When she was taken into custody she did have the 9 volt battery that we believe belonged to the smoke alarm in the apartment.”
That 9 volt battery prevented the alarm from sounding, which is not only critical to the arson case, but points out the danger of the alleged arson, since there are half dozen other people living in apartments in the house.
Moorhead Police have sent their report to the Clay County Attorney's office for possible charges.
