Crystal Sugar executives say the contract and last offer to the union was fair and made in good faith. With the beet harvest so close, the company has hired replacement workers. There is no word of any planned negotiations between the two sides. The union argues the contract is bad for worker's job security and health care.

Brian Ingulsrud – American Crystal Sugar: “We want our employees on the job that is our preference and that reflects the offer we have on the table. That being said we have replacement workers and are confident they can do the job in processing beets once the harvest starts.”

Crystal Sugar says its workers have not had to pay health insurance premiums in the past. Executives say they are asking workers to pay $73 a month for a family plan.
