Fargo is still in the process of building it's protection up to 43 feet. Today, Fargo Mayor Dennis Walker announced he will ask Fargo taxpayers to extent a half-cent infrastructure sales tax to pay for that interim protection. This would go toward the $200 million needed to protect up to 43 feet. It would be on top of half-cent sales tax levied by the city of Fargo AND the half-cent sales tax levied by Cass County to pay for the proposed diversion.
Dave Piepkorn – Fargo City Commissioner: “I’m hesitant because I think if we start getting a bunch more money in, it's a lot easier, but I'm not sure that's the most wise thing to do at this point.”
Mayor Dennis Walaker – Fargo Mayor: “Somebody may question, why do we need that with the diversion, well do we know there's going to be a diversion? I don't know.”
The vote wouldn't be until sometime next year.
