Mourners Say Goodbye to Rapid City Police Officer

Rapid City, SD (WDAY TV) - Mourners packed the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to say goodbye to the slain Rapid City police officer.

Mourners packed the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center to say goodbye to the slain Rapid City police officer. Officers from around the country came to remember 28 year old James McCandless, one of three officers shot during a routine stop last week. The two other are in the hospital. The city's police chief told the crowd McCandless showed bravery and selflessness "in a way we can all be proud of."

Steve Allender – Rapid City Police Chief: “The blessings that are found in such terrible tragedy are both wonderful and terrible. These blessings make us feel good and they make us feel guilty.”

McCandless will be buried his home hometown of Midland, Michigan.
