Suspicious package prompts brief Mall lockdown

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — A portion of Bloomington's Mall of America was locked down for about an hour after someone spotted a suspicious package, but is now open again.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) — A portion of Bloomington's Mall of America was locked down for about an hour after someone spotted a suspicious package, but is now open again.

Mall spokeswoman Bridget Jewell says the report of the suspicious package came in late Friday morning. The Bloomington Police Department instituted the lockdown, and closed off the mall's south hallways on all three levels. All the stores in those hallways brought down their security gates and herded customers into their back rooms.

Jewell says police quickly determined the package was not a threat and lifted the lockdown. She did not know what was in the package, and a Bloomington police spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
