Clay County may be getting new deputies

The Clay County Sheriff's department may be getting a couple of new deputies. Sheriff Bill Bergquist asked county commissioners to hire on two more Deputies, one for court security, the other as a full time Deputy. The $1.9 million operating budget for the department may also be expanded to hire a third position, an I.T specialist. Berguqist says the department must keep up with changing technology in the office and in squad cars,

Bill Bergquist – Clay County Sheriff: “The courthouse position is very important. I mean if they cam to us and said we could only do two or something. Then we would have to give them a list.”

The county commission still must approve the hirings in the next few weeks.
